Coalition of NGOs Joins Forces to Clean Up Nairobi River

In a collaborative effort to tackle environmental degradation and combat the effects of climate change, the National NGO Board, alongside the Nairobi County Commissioner’s Office and the Asha Hersi Foundation, among other NGOs, embarked on a massive cleanup initiative along the Nairobi River.

Led by Asha Hersi Moghe, the founder of the Asha Hersi Foundation, the coalition of organizations joined forces to address the longstanding pollution issues plaguing the Nairobi River. With the aim of fostering environmental conservation and safeguarding the health of local ecosystems, the cleanup campaign saw volunteers and officials come together to remove tons of waste and debris from the riverbanks.

Amidst the dedicated efforts to restore the river’s vitality, Kamkunji Deputy County Commissioner, Mr. John Kisang, played a pivotal role in coordinating logistics and ensuring the smooth execution of the cleanup operation. His presence underscored the commitment of local authorities to collaborate with civil society and grassroots initiatives in addressing pressing environmental challenges.

The initiative not only aimed to physically clean up the Nairobi River but also sought to raise awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship and community involvement in preserving natural resources. By mobilizing diverse stakeholders and leveraging collective action, the coalition demonstrated the power of partnerships in effecting positive change and fostering sustainable development.

As the cleanup efforts unfolded along the Nairobi River, volunteers and participants expressed a shared sense of responsibility towards safeguarding the environment for future generations. The collaborative spirit exhibited during the cleanup serves as a testament to the potential for collective action to address complex environmental issues and create lasting impact in communities.
